The Deputy Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Hussein Mohamed Omary, has urged the Cashewnut Board of Tanzania to invite investors to the industrial park located in Maranje Village, Nanyamba Town Council in Mtwara Region, whereby he also emphasized the need to ensure that the contractor completes the project at the right time, as the government’s plan is to ensure that have all cashews produced in Tanzania to be processed domestically by 2030 so that to achieve agenda 10/30.
Dr. Hussein made these remarks on February 23, 2025, during his visit to the 1,572 acres project site. He added that the Ministry of Agriculture has developed a comprehensive agricultural transformation plan covering the period from 2025 to 2050, which identifies 15 priority crops, including cashew and sesame.
Also, the Acting Processing Manager from Cashewnut Board of Tanzania, Mr. Mangile Malegesi, while presenting a progress report on the construction of the industrial park, stated that the project is expected to bring significant change by creating over 35,000 jobs as well as increasing government revenues.
This project follows directives from President of the United Republic of Tanzania Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, issued in September 2023 during her tour in Lindi and Mtwara regions. The President instructed the establishment of an industrial park to process various crops, including sesame, to enhance their value.
Following these directives, the Cashewnut Board of Tanzania, under the guidance of the Ministry of Agriculture, identified and secured land for this project in Maranje Village, Nanyamba Town Council in Mtwara Region.
