TANZANIA EMBASSY IN UAE, CBT STRATEGIZE TO UTILIZE THE GULF CASHEW MARKET THROUGH UAE

The Embassy of Tanzania in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), in collaboration with the Cashewnut Board of Tanzania, has developed strategies to fully leverage the Gulf cashew market through Dubai, the region’s trade hub.

This was highlighted during a special meeting held on February 24, 2025, between the Tanzanian delegation and the Embassy, to discuss and formulate these strategies.

The Tanzanian delegation was led by the Director General of the Cashewnut Board of Tanzania, Mr. Francis Alfred, accompanied by the Director of Marketing and Quality Control, the Manager of the Morogoro Branch, and representatives from various institutions, including the Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI), the Tanzania Cooperative Development Commission (TCDC), the Tanzania Mercantile Exchange (TMX), the MAMCU Cooperative Union, and the Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture (TCCIA).

Tanzania is the second-largest producer of cashews in Africa and ranks fifth globally. In the 2024/2025 season, production has exceeded to 528,000 tons. During the meeting, Tanzanian cashews were recognized as among the finest in the world due to their internationally acclaimed quality attributes, including their bright white color, large size, and excellent taste.

At the World Cashew Conference, held in Dubai from February 21 to 23, 2025, Tanzania made a strong presence by hosting an exhibition booth to promote its cashews, investment opportunities, and the Maranje Industrial Park. Every participant had an opportunity to learn about the progress of Tanzania’s cashew industry and the country’s readiness to offer incentives to investors willing to engage in the cashew value chain.

Additionally, the UAE was informed that the Cashewnut Board of Tanzania, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, has already allocated land for an industrial park in Maranje Village, Nanyamba Town Council, Mtwara Region. The park which is covering 1,572 hectares, is expected to house over 60 processing factories, with an estimated investment of TZS 5.6 billion and the potential to create 35,000 permanent jobs.
