The District Commissioner of Tandahimba, Colonel Michael Mtenjele, on behalf of the Mtwara Regional Commissioner, Colonel Patrick Sawala, has launched the distribution of 500 motorcycles and 500 backpacks to the (BBT) agricultural officers. He urged them to work diligently, professionally, and responsibly to bring about positive changes in the Cashew Industry.
Colonel Mtenjele encouraged the youth to use the motorcycles effectively to enable the region to achieve its target of 420,400 tons of raw cashewnuts, contributing to the overall production goal of 700,000 tons as outlined in the 2020 CCM (Chama Cha Mapinduzi) election manifesto.
On his part, the Director-General of the Cashewnut Board of Tanzania, Mr. Francis Alfred, stated that this initiative is in response to directives from President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, aimed at enhancing the contribution of the Cashew Industry in increasing income for citizens and the national economy.
The Director-General also explained that in order to achieve the goal of raising cashew production from 528,262.23 tons in the 2024/25 season to 700,000 tons in the 2025/26 season, and 1,000,000 tons by 2030, as part of efforts to meet the 10/30 agenda, the government has decided to employ 500 BBT youth who have already been deployed across the regions of Mtwara, Lindi, Ruvuma, Pwani, and Tanga.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cashewnut Board of Tanzania, Brig Gen Aloyce Mwanjile ndc, has expressed his gratitude to the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, for her efforts in enabling the Cashewnut Board of Tanzania to achieve its assigned goals. President Dr. Samia has provided free agricultural inputs, which have contributed to increased production and strengthened cashew prices. Additionally, Brig Gen Mwanjile ndc has extended his appreciation to the Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Hussein Bashe, for his guidance in ensuring that the goals set in the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) manifesto are achieved.
The launch event took place at the Cashewnut Board of Tanzania offices in Mtwara Mikindani Municipality, Mtwara Region, on March 10, 2025 and was attended by various leaders, including the Chairman of CCM Mtwara District, other CCM leaders, Council Chairpersons, District Directors, the Director of the TARI Naliendele Research Center, a representative of the Ministry of Agriculture’s Secretary-General, BBT youths, journalists as well as the management and staff of the Cashewnut Board of Tanzania.
