THE AGRICULTURAL SECTOR IS GETTING STRENGTHENED

The Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture Dr. Hussein M. Omar, participated in a working session between Tanzania and a business delegation from Bavaria, in Germany. The businessmen’s delegation was led by Hon. Tobias Gotthardt Deputy Minister of Economy, Regional Development and Energy of the State of Bavaria, Germany.

The meeting was held on November 1, 2024 at the Offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation located in Dar es Salaam where it was attended by various Leaders including Hon. Hassan Iddi Mwamweta, the Ambassador of Tanzania in Germany together with Leaders and Experts from the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation.

In that session, along with other things, the Leaders discussed how to strengthen cooperation between Tanzania and Bavaria. During the discussion, Dr. Hussein explained in relation to the various efforts being made by the Government of the sixth phase in strengthening the Agricultural Sector including, increasing the production of various crops, strengthening the irrigation infrastructure, increasing the availability of agricultural inputs and the Agricultural Sector contributing to the provision of employment for the young people through the Program Build a Better Tomorrow (BBT-YIA).

In addition, he explained that Tanzania is ready to cooperate with Bavaria in various areas of which he explained that Tanzania and Bavaria can cooperate in improving research in agriculture to increase the availability of quality seeds that are resistant to drought, technologies for the production of various crops, cooperation in increasing the acquisition of markets for crops and the area of ​​value addition of crops and technologies for preserving farmers’ crops.

On the part Hon. Tobias Gotthardt explained that the German Government is ready to cooperate with Tanzania by exchanging modern technologies and the best agricultural systems used by Bavarians, which will enable Tanzanian farmers to raise the level of production of various crops so that they can produce these crops and find a market in Europe.
