The Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture (Cooperation and Irrigation) Dr. Suleiman Serera, has launched the Growing Together Project sponsored by the Royal Government of Norway through the Norwegian Development Agency (Norad) with a total value of Euro 9.5 millions equal to Tshs. 27.8 billion, where the event was held on November 6, 2024 at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, in the city of Dar es Salaam.
The project is for 5 years and aims to support small and medium entrepreneurs (10 SMEs), 60,000 small farmers and 2 big buyers (Off Takers) for Rice, Maize, Beans and Sunflower crops in Dodoma, Iringa, Mbeya and Morogoro Regions for to solve the challenge of low productivity, access to cheap loans for processors and farmers, climate change, employment for young people and women.
The project aims to increase productivity, strengthen the availability of low-interest loans, strengthen the cooperation of young people and women and will help processors and farmers to reach the domestic and foreign markets and will contribute to achieving the goals of the 10/30 Agenda.
The project is a success resulting from the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania through the Ministry of Agriculture and the Royal Government of Norway through the Ministry of International Affairs and Development of Norway following the working visit of Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania in Norway on 12-14 February 2024, where Hon. President stressed that its implementation should affect farmers and processors in the country.
On the MoU signed, including the empowerment of the Private Sector to invest in the Agriculture Sector by obtaining loans with low interest and strengthening the cooperation of youth and women in the Food Production Systems in the country.
