AGRICULTURAL OFFICERS SHOULD CONTINUE TO PROVIDE EDUCATION ON CASHEW PRODUCTION

The Regional Commissioner of Lindi, Ms. Zainab Telack, has called on agricultural officers to continue educating cashew farmers to help achieve the target of producing 700,000 tonnes in the 2025/2026 season.

She also urged youth in the region to seize the opportunities available in the cashew sector. Furthermore, she encouraged both farmers and agricultural experts to maintain and expand their cashew farms, noting that the region has ample land suitable for cashew production.

On his part, the Director General of the Cashewnut Board of Tanzania (CBT), Mr. Francis Alfred, stated that one of the major initiatives taken by the board is the development of large-scale cashew farms, including the municipal farm in Lindi known as TARUCHINA.

Mr. Alfred added that if any farmer missed the farmers registration update period but is confirmed by government leaders to be a genuine farmer, they should report to the BBT officers. These officers will then inspect the farm and update the farmer’s information, ensuring all farmers can access the government’s subsidized agricultural inputs.

These remarks were made during a stakeholders’ meeting held in the Lindi Regional Commissioner’s conference hall to discuss the development of the cashew industry in the region.
