Ward Councillors from Nanyamba Town Council have expressed their satisfaction with the progress of the construction of the Cashew Industrial Park project located in Maranje Village, Nanyamba Town Council, in Mtwara Region, the project which covers an area of 1,572 acres.
Speaking while presenting the project’s progress report, the Ag. Director General of the Cashewnut Board of Tanzania, Mr. Mangile Malegesi, stated that the park will accommodate 30 cashewnut processing factories, 6 factories for extracting cashew shell oil, and 4 factories for processing sesame. It will also host industries for processing cashew apple products such as juice, wine, and ethanol.
In addition, the plan includes the construction of 100 warehouses for storing cashew and sesame produce, alongside various support facilities such as supermarkets, residential housing for workers, sports grounds, restaurants, a police station, a fire and rescue brigade, an investor service center, and many other amenities.
On his part, Engineer Daudi Ndabachahe, while delivering an update on the project’s construction status, mentioned that road construction and warehouse development are currently underway and that the project is progressing smoothly without any major challenges.
The estimated total cost of the industrial park project stands at USD 127,189,692.00, equivalent to TZS 343,412,168,260.00. A portion of the cost will be covered by the government, while the rest will be borne by investors.
This project is being implemented in response to directives issued by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan during her official tour of Mtwara and Lindi regions in September 2023. It is expected to be completed within five years, from 2023 to 2027.
