CASHEW GROWING REGIONS TO INCREASE FROM 5 TO 18 IN THE COUNTRY – Deputy Minister -Silinde

Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Hon. David Ernest Silinde (MP), said cashew farming will now be cultivated in other regions from the previous five (5) regions to eighteen (18) regions, in order to increase production efforts and expand cashew farms. Deputy Minister Silinde said this on October 11, 2023, during the International Cashew Conference 2023 that started today in the country at the Julius Nyerere International Conference Hall (JNICC), in the city of Dar es Salaam, where he said in efforts to increase production, the five regions are Tanga, Mtwara, Lindi, Ruvuma and Pwani. He said in the 18 regions that are intended to include Morogoro, Dodoma, Singida, Tabora, Kigoma, Rukwa, Geita, Manyara, Shinyanga, Iringa, Songwe, Mbeya and Njombe where the expansion will provide a source of income for farmers. He has added that the expansion of cashew cultivation will help the care of the environment in the arid areas of the country (climate-smart agriculture). The International Cashew Conference 2023 has been opened by Hon. Dr. Philip Isdor Mpango, Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania where more than 600 participants from more than 50 countries are participating. The participants include policy makers, farmers, traders, Government and Private Institutions, investors, etc.
