The Director General of the Cashewnut Board of Tanzania Mr. Francis Alfred has handed over four cashewnut harvesting machines to the Honorable Mayor of Mtwara Municipality Hon. Shadida Ndile and councilor of special seats Hon. Zuhura Mikidadi as a part of increasing efforts to promote cashewnut cultivation in the country for entrepreneurs.
Mr. Alfred has said that one of the responsibilities of the Cashewnut Board is to help the community in providing them with tools, he also asked the mayor to inform the Cashewnut Board in case there will be more needs where a special procedure will be prepared to provide the machines as the Cashewnut Board is also implementing the manifesto of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM).
The sorting of cashewnuts in Tanzania is an important part of the agricultural sector that contributes to increasing the value of the cashew crop, and due to the fact that Tanzania produces cashews of high quality, the government has invested in the construction of sorting factories, the aim being to increase the value in the country and expand employment, especially to youth and women.
In recent years, efforts have increased through the cooperation between the Government and the Cashewnut Board of Tanzania and by increasing the production of cashewnuts, Tanzania aims to increase the income of farmers, expand foreign markets, and compete in the international market of value-added products.
