The Minister of State in the President’s Office responsible for Youth Development, Hon. Dr. Joel Nanauka, has said that the Korosho Marathon has become an important platform for promoting investment opportunities in the cashew industry, encouraging healthy living through physical exercise, and raising awareness on the consumption of cashewnuts and the use of various cashew-related products.
He made the remarks at Millenium Grounds in Mtwara during the Korosho Marathon held on November 29, 2025. He further noted that the primary objective of the marathon is to expand the domestic market for cashewnuts in order to boost individual incomes and contribute to national economic growth.
The Acting Mtwara Regional Commissioner, Colonel Michael Mtenjele, who also serves as the District Commissioner for Tandahimba, urged participants and the public to continue exercising regularly as a way of preventing non-communicable diseases, which remain a major challenge in society.
The Director General of the Cashewnut Board of Tanzania, Mr. Francis Alfred, stated that the Board of Directors has allocated TZS 330 million from various sources, including proceeds from the Korosho Marathon. The funds will be used to support small-scale processors by providing procecing machines to enhance productivity.
The Cashew Marathon, now in its fourth edition since its inception, took place on November 29, 2025 and attracted more than 1,000 participants from different groups. Hon. Dr. Joel Nanauka graced the event as the guest of honour.
