The Russian Ambassador to Tanzania, H.E. Andrey Avetisyan, has visited the offices of the Cashewnut Board of Tanzania as well as the industrial park located in Maranje Village, Nanyamba Town Council, as part of efforts to further strengthen trade and economic cooperation, particularly in the cashew sector, between the two countries.
For his part, the Regional Commissioner of Mtwara, Colonel Patrick Sawala, said that Tanzania and Russia have long enjoyed strong diplomatic relations that extend to various sectors, including investment in agriculture.
The Director General of the Cashewnut Board of Tanzania, Mr. Francis Alfred, noted that Ambassador Avetisyan’s visit presents a great opportunity to expand and secure new markets for cashew nuts in Russia. Although Russia currently sources cashews from India and Vietnam, it could also consider purchasing directly from Tanzania.
The Director General further expressed gratitude to the Sixth-Phase Government under the leadership of H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for the continued financial support, which has enabled timely implementation of plans. He also emphasized that once the industrial park is completed, it will open up numerous opportunities, including providing investors with free plots, creating jobs for citizens, and many more benefits.
