MINISTER BASHE THANKS PRESIDENT SAMIA FOR ALLOWING AN EXPORT LEVY TO BENEFIT CASHEW FARMERS

The Minister for Agriculture, Hon. Hussein Bashe, has highlighted the benefits of allowing the Export Levy on raw cashewnuts to be used directly for the benefit of farmers, noting that the levy previously went into the government’s general fund.

He stated that the funds are now being used to purchase pesticides for cashew farmers, hire agricultural extension officers, and procure essential working tools such as motorcycles and tablets, among other support aimed at improving the livelihoods of cashew farmers.

Minister Bashe expressed his sincere gratitude to the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, for her heartfelt decision to permit the use of the Export Levy within the cashew sector.

He made these remarks on April 30, 2025, at the PSSF Hall in Dodoma during a meeting to review the 2024/2025 cashew production, processing, and marketing season, and to discuss plans for the 2025/2026 season.
